Southern Lights IV
Southern Lights IV is a contemplative abstract painting from Şennur Üzgen’s Surrexpressionism series, investigating light not as a visible phenomenon but as a presence that condenses, gathers, and assumes form.
In this work, light ceases to function as reflection or atmosphere. Instead, it establishes its own field of existence, occupying the space between materiality and perception. The gradual transitions of color do not describe a landscape; they create a suspended state where certainty dissolves and ambiguity becomes active.
At the center of the composition, a dark concentration emerges as a threshold rather than an object. It marks a point where energy accumulates, inviting the viewer into a deeper engagement with the painting’s internal dynamics.
Rather than offering serenity, Southern Lights IV generates stillness charged with tension. The work encourages pause, inward attention, and heightened perception, revealing the subtle psychological spaces that exist between light, emotion, and consciousness.
As part of Şennur Üzgen’s Surrexpressionism practice, the painting reflects an ongoing exploration of light as an emotional and perceptual force rather than a merely visual experience.
